Anyone ever baught a personal number plate.?

i wont to buy my husband a Personal number plate for his 70th birthday but i wont to give the plate to him on the day.Can anyone tell me what i have to do from start to finnish and where the cheapest place to get one from.I have plenty of time as i don't need it till 1/6.cheers from sylvie
