Why do men think just because you say you like them you want to take over their life and get married?

I've been seeing a guy for 6 weeks who is terrified of getting to serious too soon. We had a bit of a situation regarding a split condom. I've done what I can to stop a pregnancy, but since then he's been a bit off. He sent me a drunken text saying love ypu. I told him that I really liked him. His response was to say he was glad but people push it to soon and it all goes wrong. Anyone would think I'd asked him to marry me! He was the one who said love. I'm not exactly the full on type, I don't really chase a guy too much or spout words of love and romance. Anyhow I tried to phone him to sort it out but he wouldn't answer and has ignored a text asking if we can talk about it because I felt it had all got a bit mixed up and I didn't want to be stressing over something that wasn't even a problem. What should I do now?
