The needle for the gear shifter on a 1996 Blazer.?

I'm thinking about buying this 1996 Blazer and the only problem with it is when you go to shift the gears from lets say park to drive the orange needle doesn't move correctly it shows its in neutral for 3 clicks I believe then it will go to overdrive. The needle will never go over park or reverse. This isn't much of a problem because i can just count the clicks to know what I'm on, but i would really like to have it fixed. Any Ideas on what it is and how much it will cost to fix it?
